File 293 (IDPF)

Individual Deceased Personnel File - this file is controlled by the Department of the Army. If the veteran you are researching was lost overseas during World War II you will definitely want to obtain this file. The file documents the activities of the Graves Registration Command and the Army to locate, identify, and provide a final resting place for the deceased. Your letter should include the complete name of the individual, rank, service number and branch of service.
