USS Colorado
During the course of Saipan investigation I came across crewmembers of the USS Colorado that had been buried on ths island as unknowns. In 2007 I contacted the USS Colorado Association President, Les Pierce, and explained to him the situation. He and members of that organization ordered the required records and by April of 2008 we had the situation resolved.
At that time I informed Heather Harris at JPAC of the matter but told her I didn't want to turn the cases in until McVay was returned home. (There had been a recovery operation done at the Fort McKinley Cemetery in 2004 dealing with multiple unknowns that in my opinion was not well handled. I didn't want to risk the same thing happening with all the McVay family had already been through.)
The IDPFs were then forwarded to a former associate to hold on to until McVay came home. That individual betrayed that trust on several levels. First by contacting the NOKs of the crewmen claiming he had figured the cases out. Second by contacting JPAC. Third by contacting NOKs that were not involved and giving them false hope that their loved ones were going to be returned. When dealing with MIAs there is no room for recklessness.
I can assure the public that this individual is no longer associated with this Group in any way. The credit for resolving the USS Colorado cases rests solely with Les Pierce, the USS Colorado Association and the NOKs that ordered the required documents to bring them home.
